Abstract

The influence of piston spin velocity on the load capacity of film at piston-cylinder interface in piston pump and motor was examined by numerical methods. Multigrid method was used to accelerate the convergence speed. The loading forces and moments were calculated under different work conditions with the change of supply pressure, velocity of shaft, reciprocating velocity of piston, etc. The results show that the influence of piston spin on load capacity is not notable in high speed and high pressure pump and motors, but is not negligible under low pressure condiditions. The reason why spin does not make as much contribution to load capacity as sliding bearing is that the piston is always tilting in the cylinder bore.
