Abstract

In order to test the flow characteristics in the intake-port under high boosting conditions, experiments were carried out on the cylinder head of a certain diesel engine under both natural aspirated and high boosting conditions respectively. Based on the experimental results, the flow characteristics (including discharge characteristic and swirl characteristic) were obtained. The results showed that: flow characteristics in the intake port under high boosting condition is different from that under natural aspirated condition, flow coefficient under high boosting condition was lower than that of natural aspirated condition and swirl speed was higher than that of natural aspirated condition. It can be concluded that the testing results under natural aspirated condition could not evaluated accurately the characteristics in the intake ports under high boosting condition, which had great significance on the evaluation of the intake ports of diesel engine under boosting condition.
