Abstract
Based on the law of conservation of energy, relationship between the permanent dimple radius and the initial missile kinetic energy was derived. By adopting the method of numerical simulation, deformation of the shell under local impact was investigated and the deformation mode obtained. The investigation showed the relationship between the initial missile velocity and the.permanent radius, vertical displacement, and the width of fringe. The present analysis shows agreement with available experimental results.
