Abstract

To study the influence of filling material on lateral effect of penetrator with enhanced lateral efficiency(PELE), the experiments of penetrating into four layered target by a steel shell PELE filling with different cores: polyethylene, polycarbonate, Teflon, polypropylene and polyurethane penetrate, were carried out. The perforating diameters of main armor and fragments distributions on witness target were obtained in correspondence with different cores. The experiments demonstrate that PELE with Teflon core can generate more fragments and spread a larger dispersion angle. The fragment dispersion angle of PELE increases once the main armor is in a position with 38° oblique angle to the ground.
