Abstract

In order to study deeply the difference of detonation growth progress between PBXC03 and PBXC10 explosives, a one-dimensional Lagrangian experimental system is established based on the Manganin piezoresistive pressure gauge measurement technique, in which the loading technique of explosive plane-wave lens and the attenuation technique produced by both air-gap and Al-gap are used. The shock initiation experiments are performed on the PBXC03 and PBXC10 explosives. Their detonation loading devices for critical initiation are determined and press histories at different positions under critical loading condition in shock initiation process are obtained. There are obvious press growth processes after shock wave in PBXC03, but not in PBXC10. It is shown that the shock initiation and detonation growth mechanism of the HMX-based and TATB-based plastic bonded explosives are different.
