Abstract

In order to investigate the mechanism of benzyl azides on accelerating the burning process of diesel-benzyl azides blend fuel, this study experimentally studied the droplet burning characteristics with free falling technique. The results show that the flame streaks of three fuels are all yellow luminous and the brilliance increase with the increase of benzyl azides fraction, indicating the increasing sooting propensity. During the middle and late period of burning, scattered flames can be observed, which indicates that there are fragments away from the droplet because of liquid phase reaction. The normalized square diameters with the normalized time of three fuels are all two-phase characteristics and the addition of benzyl azides accelerates the burning process and causes the increase of burning rates.
