Abstract

Effects of annealing humidity and time on performance and characteristics of solution cast Nafion® membranes were investigated experimentally. Membranes cast from commercial Nafion® dispersion were annealed at 130°C for 10, 30 or 60 min in a dry or humid oven. Membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) were made by applying a catalyst layer on cast and commercial membranes. Cell performance, impedance spectroscopy, linear sweep voltammetry and cyclic voltammetry were measured. Results show that cast membranes annealed for 30 min in a humid oven or 10 min in a dry oven have the same performance as commercial membranes.
