Abstract

The technology and methods of mechanical and chemical pretreatments were studied, include mechanical scratches, grinding with emery paper, acid etching and phosphating. Their influences on the bonding strength of steel and epoxy resin were studied as well. The effect of the epoxy coating was studied by profilometer, optical microscope and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results show that the shape of the groove, distribution, surface roughness of the samples are the major factors affecting the bonding strength of steel and epoxy. These treatments and methods greatly improve the bonding strength between epoxy and steel. Finally, the bonding strength of a sample pickled for 25 mins is improved most, which increase by 169% compared with the untreated sample.
