Abstract

To study the effect of graphite content and granularity on the detonation velocity of RDX/graphite mixed explosive, the experimental study of the detonation velocity was carried out with electric probe method, and the measured detonation velocity was compared with the calculated value from the ω-Γ covolume formula. The results show that the calculated value from the ω-Γ covolume formula is higher than that from experiment because the heat-absorption of graphite on the detonation wave front is not taken into account in the formula. Improving the ω-Γ covolume formula and considering the effect of graphite content and granularity on the heat-absorption of graphite make the average absolute error of the calculated detonation velocity with the experimental one decrease from 1.68% to 0.24%.
