Abstract

Zr50.5Cu36.5Ni4Al9 bulk amorphous alloy has been prepared by copper mold casting method. The dynamic compression characteristics and the features of fracture morphology of Zr50.5Cu36.5Ni4Al9 bulk amorphous alloy at room temperature(25°C) and cryogenic temperature(-40°C) were investigated with split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) and S-4800 scanning electronic microscope (SEM). The results show that, under the dynamic compression load, the anti-compressive strength decreased with the load increase of Zr50.5Cu36.5Ni4Al9 bulk amorphous alloy. The dynamic anti-compressive strength of Zr50.5Cu36.5Ni4Al9 bulk amorphous alloy has cryogenic temperature sensitivity at -40°C temperature. The main fracture morphology of the Zr50.5Cu36.5Ni4Al9 bulk amorphous alloy shows the vein patterns with the crack and amorphous alloys melted at room temperature. The main fracture morphology of the Zr50.5Cu36.5Ni4Al9 bulk amorphous alloy shows the herringbone pattern at -40°C temperatures.
