Abstract

Asymmetric disubstituted N-methylene-C-bridged nitrogen-rich heterocycles (tetrazole and nitramino-1,2,4-triazole) were synthesized in three steps and their nitrogen-rich energetic salts were prepared. The structures of these compounds have been established by spectral and analytical data, and, in some cases, by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Detonation performance was determined using the EXPLO5 6.01 code based on calculated heats of formation and measured densities. The N-methylene-C-bridged compounds exhibit moderate thermal stability combined with high detonation performance and acceptable sensitivity and therefore are of interest for possible application as energetic materials.
