Abstract

This paper focuses on the study and application of a scissor structural element, termed non-crossing angulated element (NCAE). After studying a special NCAE with a constant subtended angle during motion, we present a family of novel deployable polyhedral mechanisms with radially reciprocating motion (RRM-DPM). Compared with previous RRM-DPMs, the presented RRM-DPMs have no singularity owing to the scissor structural property of NCAE. We also build 3D model both in computer and prototypes to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed RRM-DPMs.
