Abstract

In order to characterise adiabatic shear susceptivity of materials quantitatively, validity in using the parameter Ψ derived from adiabatic shear-band processing energy in evaluating the difference among materials is demonstrated. Forced shear testing (FST) loaded by the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) is developed to accomplish the adiabatic shear-band susceptivity testing. An integrated experimental data processing method was put forward. Using FST, optimized samples and experimental data processing method, two materials having different structures were tested, the results are found to be consistent with cognitions well accepted thus far.
