Abstract

Life detection using Ultra wideband (UWB) radar has become more and more important in civilian and military areas. Life detection is a technology of potential use, which can be widely used for post-disaster rescue, patient monitoring, wireless body networks and so on. In this paper, we propose an improved cell averaging constant false alarm (CA-CFAR) detector for life detection using UWB radar. The proposed method succeeds to extract life signal from clutter background. This method uses the improved energy of each range dimension as the cell value of the CFAR detector. Compared with the simple CA-CFAR detector, it presents a more accurate and robust result.
