A symmetric 10Gbps/λ colorless WDM-PON

Abstract

We proposed and demonstrated a novel architecture for a symmetric 10-Gbps wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON) employing Return to Zero Differential Phase Shift Keying (RZ-DPSK) modulation format for the down-link. In the uplink the downstream carrier is remodulated using an intensity modulation (IM) technique. An error free, colorless WDM-PON transmission with a symmetric data rate of 10-Gbps/λ on a 60 GHz channel grid is achieved without using any signal amplification or dispersion compensation management. In addition, a 4dBm improvement is achieved for the upstream transmission in comparison to our previous work [25].
