Abstract

To provide personalized guiding service for visitors in the museum, a new museum guide system based on mobile visual search is presented. It allows visitors access information about objects of interests by taking pictures with the camera of a mobile phone. The key contribution is an improved framework of mobile visual search by considering the performance differences of various mobile phones, which can recognize large-scale objects on the remote server, and perform real-time object recognition with the mobile phone in a given region. Compared with existing guide systems, our system is more user-friendly, and provide more comprehensive information. In addition, it does not need to install any equipment and can be widely used in the museum guide applications. Experimental results show the feasibility and practicality of the proposed system.
