Abstract

One-dimensional (1-D) hetero-nanostructures, with modulated compositions, structures, interface, doping states, and special physical properties, are ideal building blocks for a wide range of new-type nanoscale electronics, optoelectronics, and chemical sensing devices and so on. This brief review article will describe the state-of-the-art research activities in 1-D hetero-nanostructures, including materials synthesis and their device applications. This paper consists of three main sections categorized by materials synthesis, typical 1-D hetero-nanostructures including 1-D axial heteronanostructures, 1-D radial hetero-nanostructures, and 1-D hierarchical hetero-nanostructures, and electronic and optoelectronic devices applications. Finally, we will conclude this review with some perspectives and outlook on the future developments in 1-D hetero-nanostructures.
