Abstract
Applying augmented reality technology to military simulation training system has become the mainstream research direction in military simulation field. A dynamic and real-time military simulation system based on augmented reality technology is introduced. The system captures the video stream of the real scene as a battlefield environment using a normal monocular camera, and then renders the virtual military forces and vehicles into the real scene, which restores a realistic military environment. A semi-dense simultaneous localization and mapping algorithm combined with Inertial Measurement Unit is used for dynamic, real-time, and scale-based tracking. An initial location method based on offline map is proposed, which solves the problem of initial location in tracking thread. Preliminary system experiments show that the realistic military battlefield environment can be restored, and the improved tracking algorithm performs well in initial positioning. Besides, the accuracy, robustness and real-time performance of the tracking algorithm are also good.
