Abstract
A continuous wide wavelength scanning fiber laser with narrow linewidth is developed. The laser is based on a ring cavity structure, in which a 980nm semiconductor laser is used as the pump source, an erbium-doped fiber (Nufern, EDFC-980-HP) is used as the gain medium, an unpumped erbium-doped fiber (IXFiber, EDFC-980-PM) is used as the saturable absorber to compress the linewidth. A Fabry-Perot (F-P) tunable filter is used as the wavelength selector, the wavelength scanning of the fiber laser is achieved by changing the voltage applied on the tunable filter. The spectral linewidth of the laser is measured by the relationship between the coherent length of the laser and interference fringes of the interferometer, the wavelength scanning range from 1514.8nm to 1586.6nm and the linewidth less than 0.025nm are realized finally.
