abstract = "Accurate forecasting of wind power production can reduce the requirement for reserve and increase the reliability of power systems. Various types of reserve are discussed. A method is introduced to quantify regulating and operating reserve by considering the uncertainty of load and wind power forecasts. A 10min averaging method is used in the hourly wind power forecast. The IEEE Reliability Test System-96 is used in an analysis to demonstrate the effect of wind power forecasting on system reserve.",
