W-Band Microstrip Comb-Line Antenna with Shaped Pattern at Low Cost

摘要

Although various microstrip comb-line antennas (CLAs) have been proposed, a CLA with shaped pattern has not been reported. In this work, we investigate the reasons why shaped patterns are difficult to realize for conventional CLAs and succeed in designing a CLA with cosecant squared (CSC2) shaped pattern as a proof of concept. Additionally, it is demonstrated that strong standing waves can persist in the feedline of a CLA even though the impedance matching at its input port is good. Hence, reflection cancelling slits (RCSs) are employed to suppress the reflected waves. To confirm this concept, a microstrip CLA with 16 elements for millimeter-wave (mm-Wave) radars is designed, fabricated, and measured. Its patterns agree well with the objective CSC2 curve across 79 GHz - 81 GHz.
