Thermal decomposition of flame-retarded high impact polystyrene

摘要

The thermal decomposition process and decomposed products of high impact polystyrene (HIPS) were analyzed by using TGA-IR and Py-GC/MS, respectively. Moreover, the radical reaction mechanism of the degradation of HIPS was discussed. The degradation process of flame-retarded system of decabromdiphenyl ethane (DBDPE) and antimony trioxide (Sb 2 O 3) and the flame-retarded mechanism of condensed phase and gas phase for flame-retarded HIPS were investigated. The results showed that the β-scission of HIPS happened in combustion mainly; a mass of smog was composed of styrene, toluene, α-methyl-styrene, ethylbenzene, butadiene and so on. The condensed phase was composed of the products of 1, 3, 5-triphenyl-benzene and other oligomers. At different temperature, the pyrolyzed products of flame-retarded HIPS were different, and the small molecular compounds evidently increased at high temperature.
