The direct uniaxial tensile strength of chemical vapor deposited zinc sulfide from room temperature to 600°C

摘要

A simple, effective and economic apparatus for the direct uniaxial tensile strength of brittle materials is developed based on the traditional fixture for tension at high temperatures. The direct uniaxial tensile strength of chemical vapor deposited (CVD) zinc sulfide (ZnS) is then measured from room temperature (RT) to 600°C. The study shows that the direct uniaxial tensile strength of CVD ZnS is 51.5% of the three-point bending strength at RT and increases with temperature. This temperature behavior of the tensile strength is related to the fractured surface roughness change with temperature. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first report on the direct tensile strength of ZnS.
