The dimensional analysis and cratering experiment of the projectile penetrating into concrete target

In the recent years, the problems on the projectile impacting, penetrating, perforating and damaging the concrete target had been widely concerned with the in-depth study of the penetrating effect of projectile. But the problem on cratering of the projectile penetrating into the concrete target has not been studied thoroughly. The cratering is an initial stage of the complete penetration process, which reflects a considerable part of the penetration capacity. It also is an important integral part of the projectile perforating into the finite thick concrete target. Based on the cratering experiment, a non-dimensional expression of the cratering characteristic parameters of the projectile penetrating into the concrete target was obtained, and the comparative analysis of the experimental results was made.
