Terahertz low profile antenna based on spoof surface plasmon polaritons

摘要

Low profile antennas have the advantages of small size, light weight in the terahertz band. Low profile antennas based on spoof surface plasmon polaritons have wider frequency bands and higher gain. In this paper, a one-dimensional spoof surface plasmon polaritons structure is proposed to achieve a low profile terahertz antenna. The structure has a small cross-sectional dimension for low profile characteristics. It is fed by a rectangular waveguide with a tapered cover to improve the impedance matching. The simulated 14-dB return loss bandwidth is 37.5% with the center frequency of 400 GHz. The antenna gain in the operating band is higher than 11.5 dBi with a maximum value of 17 dBi at 454 GHz. Such a wide impedance bandwidth and low profile of the proposed antenna are significant to achieve miniaturization in terahertz communication systems.
