abstract = "Research on the mesh simplification algorithm has been very active in the past years. The color features are very important and can be perceived by human observers. Nevertheless, these features are ignored by most simplification methods. For this reason, this paper presents the salient color features preserving mesh simplification method. First, the multiscale method for the estimation of the color saliency of 3D colored meshes is proposed. Then, the mesh simplification process based on the salient color features is presented. Finally, the experiment results show that the salient color features could be detected efficiently and this color saliency can improve the preservation of salient color features during the mesh simplification.",
