摘要
Propagation and deflection of shear bands in metallic glass under circumferential constraint was investigated. The study illustrates the formation and propagation of shear bands in metallic glass having a close relationship with the stress state and the circumferential limitation/constraint. The unsymmetrical circumferential limiting boundary to a Zr-based metallic glass sample during the small punch test, was also investigated to reveal the propagation. A Zr52.5Cu17.9Al10Ni 14.6Ti5 master alloy was prepared by arc melting element Zr, Cu, Al, Ni and Ti with a purity of 99.99% or in a Ti-getter argon atmosphere. The experiment was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) using a Rigaku diffractometer with Cu-radiation as a source. The results found the increase in compressive plasticity from 6% to 11%. The results suggests the strengthening metallic glass surface as an effective method to control the propagation and deflection of shear bands.
