Programmable linear frequency modulated signal generation using a compact photonics-based scheme

摘要

A compact programmable photonics-based linear frequency modulated (LFM) signal generation scheme is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. By using one dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator, two optical frequency combs with different free spectral ranges are produced simultaneously. High-frequency broadband LFM signals can be obtained with a low-frequency narrowband intermediate-frequency signal by beating high order pair of optical lines. The adjustable LFM signal parameters fully prove the reconfigurability of this generation scheme. In addition, dual-band LFM signals can be achieved by employing a programmable multi-channel waveshaper. A feedback compensation method is further proposed to precisely shape the envelopes of the pulsed LFM signal.
