N2 - To effectively apply the AIE characteristics, tetraphenylethylenes' aggregates were immobilized by polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as the adhesive on the filter. The relationship between the concentration of PVA solution and the AIE properties of tetraphenylethylene (TPE), 1, 1, 2, 2-tetra (4-[5-(bromopentyl) oxy] phenyl) ethylene (TPE-OR) and (4-biphenylyl) phenyldibenzofulvene (BpPDBF) was firstly studied in THF-water mixture, respectively. The results showed that the fluorescence intensity of three samples similarly varied with PVA concentration in the presence of different water fraction in THF-water mixture. It indicated that the restricted intramolecular rotations of the compounds are impelled with the increase of PVA concentration. Unfortunately, it would go against the appearance of greater aggregate when PVA concentration is further increased. As a result, the alteration of fluorescence intensity depended on both of them. In addition, TPE, TPE-OR and BpPDBF films which are fixed on filter paper using PVA as adhesion agent can be used to test volatile atmosphere of specificorganic solvents and nitro-compounds, and responses are sensitive.
