摘要

A photonic radio-frequency phase detector based on radio-frequency (RF) to intermediate-frequency mapping is demonstrated, and the theoretical principle of the design is explained. The phase difference of two low-frequency signals beat from two pairs of phase-locked optical carriers corresponds to the phase information of RF signals. The RF phase detector features broad operational bandwidth, low component frequency, linear detective range and robust against phase noise of optical source. A prototype of the RF photonic phase detector with the frequency range of 6-18 GHz, discrimination range of 360 ° and linear output is experimentally demonstrated.
