abstract = "We present in this paper an HSS (Hierarchically Semiseparable) matrix based fast direct surface integral equation solver for computing electromagnetic scattering by cavities. In the proposed solver, the poor conditioned dense matrix equations system of surface integral equation (SIE) for a cavity is solved by using accuracy-controllable HSS direct solver. This HSS based fast direct SIE solver is parallelized to further improve its computational capability. Numerical experiments demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method for nonuniform deep and large cavities.",
