Multi-axial high cycle fatigue life estimation for diesel crankshaft

摘要

Multi-body dynamics simulation of cranktrain was carried out according to a V-type eight-cylinder diesel engine, and the loads acting on crankpins were gained. Then these loads were applied on the finite element model of the crankshaft and stress history was obtained after transient dynamic analysis. The fatigue life of the crankshaft was predicted using the Basquin formula based on equivalent stress and McDiarimid model based on critical plane method, which are both suitable for high cycle multi-axial fatigue. The results indicate that McDiarimid model based on critical plane method is more reasonable.
