Microstructure and properties of nano-structured Al2O3-13%TiO2 coating by APS

摘要

Nano-structured Al2O3-13%TiO2 coating was manufactured by APS (Air Plasma Spraying). The resistance to sliding wear was tested by SRV frictional wear instrument. The fracture microstructure and worn-out surface morphology of specimens were observed by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) and the hardness of coatings was measured. The results show that the nanostructured coating is possessed of a unique microstructure, and more interfaces with metallurgical bonding appear among the splats, which lead to the obvious improvement of interface bonding. The resistance to sliding wear is excellent due to the higher micro-hardness. The worn area is only 1/5 of that of the conventional coating. The enhancement of interface bonding is mainly attributed to improving of resistance to sliding wear.
