Influences of crack form on elastic modulus instrumented indentation test results of ceramic materials

摘要

The effect of crack form (i.e., Radial Crack and Half-Penny Crack) on the elastic modulus instrumented indentation measurement value of ceramic material (i.e., We/Wt=0.3-0.7) was investigated based on the finite element analysis method. The elastic modulus instrumented indentation test results of ceramic materials such as Si3N4,ZrO2,ZTA,Al2O3, fused silica at different loads and crack forms were analyzed. The results show that the effect of RC and HPC forms on the elastic modulus instrumented indentation test results of ceramic material can be ignored. However, the effect of "Pop-in phenomenon" on the instrumented indentation test results of ceramic material is dominant. Therefore, when the "Pop-in phenomenon" does not occur, the elastic modulus instrumented indentation test results of ceramic material are valid in somehow. This paper provides a theoretical foundation for a further study on instrumented indentation determining the ceramic material elastic-plastic properties and fracture toughness.
