N2 - An algorithm based on vessels similarity is proposed to identify the eight main retinal vessels in retinal images. A similarity cost is proposed in this paper to measure the similarity between vessel structures based on tree edit distance and prior knowledge is add in the similarity assessment. The similarity cost is calculated between each vessel and the vessels in a reference image and each blood vessel in the test image is matched with the labeled vessel whose similarity cost is lowest. Experiment results show that the proposed method is effective for public database DRIVE as well as clinical data. This method is currently the first to identify the eight main vessels in retinal images automatically using the similarity matching of vessel structure.
