Experimental study on the jet formation and penetration of conical shaped charges with titanium alloy liner

摘要

To study the penetration performance of light alloy liner, the jet formation and penetration against steel targets of two types of Titanium alloy conical shaped charge with large apex angle were investigated by means of flash X-ray photographs. The results show that, the shaped charges with apex angle 140° generate explosively formed penetrator (EFP), which can produce holes with large diameter but low depth. When detonated at the center, the jet formed by the shaped charge with 120° is close to rod-like jet. However, when detonated circularly, it produces typical jet and its penetration depth could be greatly increased. Besides, compared with copper liner, the hole-diameter obtained by Titanium liner was increased obviously. Therefore, by adjusting the detonation diameter and using light alloy, the penetration depth can be improved with a higher energy efficient and larger diameter.
