Design and implementation of highly efficient soft-decision viterbi decoder in trellis coded modulation

摘要

Digital mobile communication and individual communication in future are faced with double pressures from bandwidth limitation and power limitation. Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) is a kind of error correction coding technique with combined consideration of coding and modulation and it is able to largely improve the system performance, which is widely applied in various high-speed digital transmission systems such as digital microwave communication and satellite communication, etc. Decoder design and realization in TCM belong to important components of communication reception terminal. Based upon TCM plan combining 8PSK with 323 convolution code, the paper designs and utilizes FPGA to accomplish one kind of highly efficient soft-decision decoder realization algorithm in parallel. The test proves that this algorithm is fast in computation speed, superior in performance and powerful in engineering practice.
