Damage characteristics and fracture morphology of commercial pure TA2

摘要

Dynamic mechanical properties and fracture morphology related to adiabatic shear band formed in pure titanium TA2 have been observed by means of specially designed specimen in a Hopkinson pressure machine at high strain rate of 103 s-1. Microstructure and fracture morphology of the specimens are observed by scanning electric microscope (SEM) and transmission electric microscopy (TEM). The observation indicates that the material undergoes uniform deformation at a low strain rate to symmetry uniform deformation in range of middling strain to asymmetry deformation at high strain before it is damaged. The materials are characterized by thermo-plastic instability. The fracture morphology is characterized by tenacity pit and tenacity veins.
