Critical Condition of Reinforced Concrete Roof Slab Failure Under Blast and its Blast Resistance Design Method

The reinforced concrete (RC) roof is one of the significant targets of the explosion terrorist attack, and research on its blast resistance performance is of great significance. There is no unified design method for the blast resistance capability of RC roof slabs due to the huge differences in size and strength of building structures and the randomness of terrorist attacks. A simple and universal method for evaluating blast-resistant ability of a RC roof slab has been established in this study. For the RC with the given compressive strength of 45.53 MPa, if the overall sizes of a RC roof slab are known, blast-resistant ability of the RC roof slab can be evaluated using the simple and universal method established in this study. The critical explosive mass of the RC roof slab can be determined. In the range from 200 to 2700 of axb/δ2 (area divided by square of thickness for a RC roof slab), critical TNT explosive masses are 2–4 kg for RC with the compressive strength of 45.53 MPa.
