title = "Charge State Tristability of Oxygen Adatom on a Rutile TiO2(110)-(1 × 1) Surface Controlled by Atomic Force Microscopy",
abstract = "We show that a single oxygen adatom on a rutile TiO2(110)-(1 × 1) surface is charge tristable, forming Oad2-, Oad-, and Oad0, and that the charge states can be controlled with single-electron precision using atomic force microscopy and Kelvin probe force spectroscopy. The experimental results show that Oad0is indeed the lowest redox state of the oxygen adatom and that Oad+is not achievable. Our findings expand our understanding of the chemical nature of the oxygen adatom on metal oxide surfaces.",
