title = "Characteristics of GPS signal propagation in cylindrical metal pipes with one end closed",
abstract = "Propagation of Global Positioning System (GPS) signal in one-end-closed cylindrical metal pipes has been studied in this paper. The field component equations in metal pipes are deduced using cylindrical waveguide theory. Based on the cylindrical waveguide cutoff frequency, relationships between minimum diameters and various types of TE and TM waves are obtained. According to the concept of far-field antenna equivalent waveguide, the receiving of GPS signal in one-end-closed cylindrical metal pipes is changed into the characteristics of far-field antenna. The receiving and positioning of the GPS antenna is calculated. The simulation shows that one-end-closed cylindrical metal pipes with proper diameters is better than pipe outside in receiving GPS signal.",
