摘要
Al2O3/SiC nanocomposites with different relative densities were investigated the bending strength recovery and crack healing behavior in annealing. Vicker's indentation method was used to introduce the controlled cracks. Changes in the four-point bending strength of the sample with indentation were used to evaluate the healing effects indirectly. It was found that healing increased strongly as annealing temperature increased above 850°C. After annealing at 1150°C for one hour, all indented samples with different relative density recovered their original bending strength almost completely. Crack healing mechanism was attributed to the relaxation of residual stress and the oxidation of SiC particles on the crack interface. However, excess oxidation was shown to reduce the healing effect.
