An isothermal nanocalorimetric platform for antimicrobial susceptibility testing based on bacterial metabolic heat measurements

摘要

We present an optimized isothermal nanocalorimetric platform comprising thermopile sensors for performing highly sensitive and rapid bacterial metabolic heat measurements. Based on the specific evolution of the bacterial heat flow curves, different metabolic states could be identified and the metabolic heat generation under various conditions, such as different culture media and temperatures, was studied. We demonstrated the feasibility of fast antimicrobial susceptibility testing and the possibility to determine minimum inhibitor concentrations within a few hours, i.e. on a much shorter timescale than with current clinical setting.
