N2 - In this paper, a mathematical bit error ratio (BER) model for IR-UWB with time hopping pulse position modulation (TH-PPM) and time hopping bipolar phase shift keying modulation (TH-BPSK) has been proposed to study the effect of 1/f noise jitter and white noise jitter on BER performance. Our study shows that 1/f noise jitter and white noise jitter greatly degrades BER performance. To mitigate this effect in low rate IR-UWB systems, a novel timing jitter compensation method is presented with low implemantation complexity. Simulation results indicate that BER performance can be significantly improved by the proposed jitter compensation method.
