N2 - This program is based on the idea of “molecular engineering”, that is, function-oriented design and tailor of structures at the molecular level, and ultimately to achieve the rational synthesis, preparation, and assembly of specific functional systems. A number of functional systems including the molecular-based system, surface and interface system, porous system, complex system, metal organic system and molecule-based system, have been selected in this study. Some progresses have been achieved in the aspects of molecule self- assembly, chemical regulation of surface-interface and energy-level structure, designed construction and synthesis of porous materials, mechanism of metal valence, elementary configuration and side-arm assistance, as well as controllable breaking and forming of chemical bonds. The implementation of the project will lay scientific fundations to advance the developments of chemistry, environment, energy, materials and life science, etc.
