Abstract

The quality of JPEG2000 image is seriously degraded when the bit error rate becomes rather high, so RS coding is added in the system for error control. An unequal error control (UEC) scheme is proposed to provide unequal error protection for different layers of JPEG2000 encoded multilayer bit streams. The statistical property of a specific wireless mobile environment is analyzed and the fading channel is modeled. Performance of the proposed UEC scheme in the fading channel is analyzed by simulation. The result of simulation showed that the proposed scheme can reconstruct clear images at the receiver in the fading channel plus random error at the rate of 10-3. Hardware design of baseband digital signal processing for the wireless image transmission system is given, in which the proposed scheme is applied.
