Abstract

The concept of "Unequal Power Control" was proposed to meet the need of integrated traffic transmission in ATM/CDMA wireless communication networks. "Unequal Power Control" means that power control in the reverse channels is such that the signal power received at the receiver be unequal for different kinds of traffic while being equal for the same kind of traffic. Using voice / data integrated traffic as an example, a detailed analysis of the optimum power factor, the throughput and capacity of the reverse channels in the case of unequal power control and the comparison with the equal power control case were both presented. The results show that the unequal power control can expand the allowable load area and provide a significant improvement in the system capacity comparing with the equal power control.
