Abstract

Two cadmium(II)-ntcaa coordination polymers, [Cd(phen)(ntcaa)(H 2O)2]n (1) and [Cd2(4,4′-bpy) (ntcaa)2]n (2) (ntcaa = naphthalene-1,4,5,8- tetracarboxylic acid 4,5-anhydride, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, 4,4′-bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine), were synthesized via hydrothermal method. The structure of compound 1 is a neutral comb-like chain with π-π interactions between the phen and naphthalene aromatic rings, while that of 2 possesses an interesting baluster structure composed of helix chain as post and 4,4′-bpy as connector. Photoluminescent investigations reveal that both compounds exhibit strong emissions in the solid state.
