Trellis coded modulation with three-dimension 9QAM mapping based on a novel probabilistic shaping method

Abstract

In order to achieve higher data rate, higher spectral efficiency and greater transmission distance, the scheme of trellis coded modulation with three dimension 9QAM mapping based on a novel probabilistic shaping (PS) method is proposed in this paper. The bit error rate performance of three dimension 9QAM–TCM is investigated by simulation and compared with three dimension 8QAM–TCM scheme. Research results show that the Eb/N0 of the proposed three dimension 9QAM–TCM scheme is 1.2 dB smaller than that of three dimension 8QAM–TCM at the bit error rate of 10−4.
