Abstract

On the basis of the rate equation of the double-clad fiber laser, the formulas describing the output power, slope efficiency and threshold power are deduced for the Yb3+ -doped double-clad fiber laser, and numerical analysis is also carried out. Experiments study has also been conducted. Laser diodes with the center wavelength around 975nm were adopted as pumping sources. The one-end pump structure was used to pump a double-clad fiber with a D-shape inner cladding. Two different coupling systems were used. The maximum output power of 24W and total optical-to-optical efficiency of 53.5% were achieved.
